A "legacy system" is an old system, typically a mainframe. Webster defines
'legacy' as: "Something handed down from an ancestor or a predecessor or
from the past", so a legacy system is one which is built on *outdated* technology.
The system works and has worked for many years, and so developers creating
a new system or enhancing an existing system must learn how to communicate
with the legacy system already in place.

    Java or JavaBeans.
I am an unemployed mainframe programmer who wishes to start learning

a new language and also doesn't have a lot of money to make mistakes
    with.
Any and all advice will be appreciated.
I just can't seem to get any information-it's almost like nobody ever
    heard of this.
