IIRC, only administrators (or members of the group) can create raw
sockets... yet another reason to not run your PC as an admin? :-) I believe
that this whole thing is being over-hyped just to score points; Unix has had
this capability for years and you don't hear anyone making such a fuss about
it.

Damit,
Your point that only Admin can create raw sockets IS NO LONGER TRUE with
Windows XP Home Edition. With the Home Edition of XP, anyone can create raw
sockets. The Gibson article http://grc.com/dos/winxp.htm addresses your
point directly.

Unix hasn't produced a 100 million+ non-technical users whose [badly
configured/protected] machines can be commanded to launch DoS attacks on
demand.
Some but not millions.
