Would like to know how does these GRID/SPREADSHEET controls compare to each
other ? Which is the best for what situation ?
1) Farpoint Spread
2) Apex True DB Grid Pro
3) Protoview DataTable
4) Sheridan DataWidgets
Thanks.

Re: grid control comparisons
I have not actually worked with all of those so I cannot give an objective
comparison, but there are a few others you should also consider. There is
a full list at the following URL:
http://www.vbxtras.com/Search.asp?SearchWords=grid
I'd suggest downloading the demo of each and taking them for a spin. Best
way to decide is to try them to see which one you like the best (and/or ask
specific questions about capabilities.)

Re: grid control comparisons
Hi Ryan
I have to admit that the express product range is really good
I recently downloaded the Xpresstreelist control, got excelent support etc
and the control works really well.
Than I decided to buy it, I tell you your response rate is really slow. When
I ordered over the internet I was sort of left stranded, I was told that
I would get an email soon and that my credit card details would not be processed
as yet.
Today I got an email letting me know that I could download the product. OK
I did this then I needed to give a machine key, which I now have done. Now
I need to wait for another response from the slow sales team. I mean can't
you automate the last bit of the process. I understand the security and piracy
issues but I am sure once I get my product key for my current machine I should
be able to get a quicker response i.e. one thats almost immediate.
The worst part of it is that for any support I have to call the US it's not
practical when you are located in the UK, I meen the extra phone bills etc.
Never the less you guys have a really good product and good technical support,
but the sales side of things you need to sort out. Especially because projects
need to be delivered on time I have waisted over a week due to the red tape
in the process.
Well anyway I do think you should include it in the comparison.
Take Care
Manoj

Re: grid control comparisons
Manoj,
Your question sparked an interest from our company. As a customer, what
solutions would you like to see that would help in the process you
experienced?
Our process is similar in some areas - although not quite as laborious.
The process that we have in place was setup to add an additional level of
protection and security for our customers. And I can honestly tell you that
it has worked more than once. An automated system would not have caught
the few situations where a question was raised about a product purchase.
In our case, when a purchase is made the customer will receive an email from
our office here that is totally independent of our secure servers located in
an entirely different location. The email they get from this office, we
call it a confirmation order, must be responded to via the email address
used when the purchase was made. We do not allow transactions to fully
complete until we have that confirmation. If we get a confirmation but from
a different email address or if information does not match the original
secure server information for the order, we then make contact by phone or
certified letter to validate the order. In one case, this saved an elderly
gentleman over $1000 because not only did he not place the order, he had
never used a computer in his life.
Again, if we had a totally automated system in place, this situation would
never have been caught. Sure, we would have been $1000 ahead on income that
month but someone else would have been hurt by that process and received
nothing in return. Is not this the better approach even if it means there
is a short delay in you getting your full registered product?
We would love to hear what you, as a customer and user, would like to see
when you make an online purchase. Keeping in mind that many of us out here
that handle e-commerce via our web sites, must do everything we can to
protect those that purchase our products.

Re: grid control comparisons
Hi Todd,
I guess the delay system does have its advantages, its just that when you
have a pressing project one can not always wait for such a long period of
time. Anyway the Express team did get back and I am really happy with the
rest of the services offered.
I do understand that it is difficult to get the security issues sorted out.
I guess that the best way around the process is probably to update the person
on what is going on at each stage of the process. Also let them know if there
shall be a delay. Another nice thing would be to temporarily give a code
so that the evaluation can be run for a few more days, that way one still
has something to work with.
Anyway it is a difficult issue to get the balance right.
Take care
Manoj
