set object to an existing running Excel

    Hi,
Is there anyway to code an VB program such that
it will create and set an object to a currently opened
Excel/Word so that the data can be modified through
    that object properties?

You can use the GetObject function as Tom mentioned, but if multiple instances of Excel or Word are
running you won't have a choice as to which one is used.
