Creating a .udl file
How do I get windows explorer to show the menu selection for creating Microsoft
Universal Data Files? I have Visual Studio 6.0 installed but do not have
this option in the menu. Is there another way to create this file?
Thanks

Gurus in the field have told me that this menu selection exists. Methinks
only in the land of Oz, however. It appears nowhere on any system or OS on
which I have VS installed, including VS.Net.
I simply create and save an empty text file with a .udl extension and then
go to Explorer and double-click the file name. That'll get you where you
need to go to fill in the blanks.

Re: Creating a .udl file
This menu option did exist prior to installing MDAC 2.5 or higher. If you
right clicked on the desktop, under the New sub-menu there used to be Microsoft
Datalink (or something similar) option.
After installing MDAC 2.5 this menu option disappeared.
I'm sure it could be added manually via som registry entry but, as is mentioned
below, it's just as easy to create a blank text file with a udl (Datalink)
extension. Once the file created double click it to open it.
