they are used in hierarchical rowsets. You can use them to access the child
recordsets in parent/child relationship. For example, if you have a hierarchical
recordset defined as a customers have 0 to many orders, the customer recordset
will have a chapter column which returns a recordset containing the customer's
orders. Chapters are used most often with recordsets generated from XML
or using the ADO Shape Provider.
