    DOES SIZE MATTER?

I use an Access 2000 database for my VB6 / JET / ADO application. Users
ofter complaint that the size of some of the fields is too small... If I
change the size of all TEXT fields to say 50, 100 or 255 characters, will I
have a HUGE database size? Does Access 2000/Jet preset room for these fields
even if the entire size is not used? My database has dozens and dozens of
    tables!
    HELP!
    Thanks
    SB

I continue to develop with VB6 on Access97 and know that there is no difference
wether the text size is 1 or 255. I assume any indexes will be just as efficient!?
As far as I know, Access 2000 follows suit but I will probably be going
VB/ADO on MSDE once Access97 becomes less supportable and then just look
forward to SQL7/2000 everlasting Service Packs.

Access only uses as much space as it needs for the data. Note that this can
lead to problems. It's possible to define tables that have row sizes that
are far too big (say 10 or 12 fields defined as Text 255), and Access will
be happy with it. However, once you put enough data in so that the length of
the row exceeds the 2000 byte limit, you'll get an error.
