    Using Access 2000 mdb files in VB5 or VB6?

    I have a customized contacts program built in VB5 using an Access 97 database.
    Our company is in the process of upgrading to Access 2000. Will I be able
    to access an Access 2000 mdb file in my VB5 program, or will I have to upgrade
    to VB6 to make it work?
    Thanks for your help.

    If you are using ADO to open the database the only thing you should have to
    do is change the provider string to

    Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0

    This supports Access 2000.
    The 3.51 provider supports Access 97 and lower.

    You should distribute mdac_typ.exe version 2.50.4403.12
    or higher with your app.
    Note: if you choose to distribute MDAC 2.6 you will have to also distribute
    jet40sp4.exe which includes the JET drivers - as MDAC 2.6 does not include
    the JET drivers - unlike prior version of MDAC_Typ.exe.
