.NET Deployment PC hardware and OS requirements (was: I don't like VB NET, is too slow....)

The requirements of the deployment machine are of greater concern to me than
the requirements of the dev machine. How big is the .NET framework
"runtime" and what sort of RAM and processor will be required on end-users'
PCs in order to attain performance comparable to a competently-written
pure-VB6 application? Will .NET work on Win98, or is the expectation that
end users will have to upgrade to Win2000?

Rumblings are that the redistributable will be in the 15-20Mb ballpark.

Educated wild guess: +8-12Mb, same processor.

..NET applications should run on all Win32 implementations.

Tim,

I have over 5000 PII 233 with 32 meg of ram and I asked if I could expect to
run a .NET app on these machines, and each time I have asked the reply was
yes. I will be the first to admit that a ram upgrade is in need for these
machines regardless, but when Beta2 arrives, this will be something that is
tested. You can deploy on 98.
