Companies Using .NET
Many of the programmers at my job are really excited about .NET. We have a
couple major projects on the horizon and naturally, we would love to do them
in .NET. There are a lot of good business reasons for doing them in .NET,
however, our CIO is reluctant to use any technology until it's been out for
two years, no matter how good the technology might be. I think if we can
compile a list of companies that are currently doing .NET development, it
might alleviate her concern. For example, I know that Verizon and MSNBC have
already implemented systems in .NET. What other companies are doing .NET?
Please post to this thread any companies doing .NET. The bigger the company,
the better. If possible, please include a cite. Thank you very much.
List so far:
Company: MSNBC

Re: Companies Using .NET
I'd like to add two global corporations, one commercial software vendor,
ninteen retail/reseller store chains, and one local governement agency to
that list, but unfortunately, there are NDA's attached to each of their projects
at the moment.
That probably didn't help much
But if out of the two and half million people currently using the Beta -
if we say that for every one hundred individuals one company is represented,
it's easy to see that we have a lot of companies currently evaluating the
product. ****, even one in one thousand is a conciderable number. Now, I
don't know how many of these suspected companies evaluating .NET plan on
using .NET right away, but every company i've talked to since November is
already heading down that path.
Anyway, I'll keep my eyes open. I'm also curious to know who's doing what
with .NET out there.

I would be glad to tell you that the company I work for will be using .NET,
however I'm not allowed to do that. Let's just say that one of the largest
financial services company in the world will be using it.

Re: Companies Using .NET
Hi Rob, if any of these companies go public, like when EWeek did their article
on Verizon, please remember to come back here and post. Thanks.

Re: Companies Using .NET
I know that at least one of them plans on doing a very big press release
when the time comes, but that won't be until the project is completed sometime
at the end of first quarter 2002.
I suspect quite a few companies planning on rolling something out with .NET
probably won't have something in production until at least that time. Hopefully,
your boss will understand that situation and be patient.

And?

He was just asking for a list of companies using .NET. Unless you're claiming
that these companies are *not* really using .NET after all, your objection
is irrelevent to the question that was asked.

Oh, you must be one of those anti-.NET religious zealots. It must really
bother you to see companies using .NET already...

Hmmm.... That smells like Price Waterhouse Coopers. I hear the "one of the
largest financial services company in the world" bable all the time from
people who work there. They're brain washed to say that.

Re: Companies Using .NET
hi
i believe www.Cafepress.com uses .NET, because their site uses .ASPX pages
(site is very fast, too).
have you seen www.ibuyspy.com? this is a great demo site built entirely
using .NET, you can download all the source code. you can download, setup,
and customize a whole intranet/portal/online store in a few minutes. maybe
that would impress your mgmt?
i think its great if someone could compile a list like youre doing, because
some of the examples MSFT cites are kind of iffy, in my view. i mean, if a
company is using SQL Server 2000 as their DB, does that mean that they are
using .NET? i dunno about that, but MSFT seems to think so. my definition
of "using .NET" would be if a company had production machines with the .NET
framework and if developers were using VS.NET. just my opinion.

Steve: Good point. Here are a few other sites I've seen using ASP.NET:
http://www.deeptraining.com
http://www.aspfree.com
http://www.aspng.com
Has anyone noticed any others?

Yes, http://www.vbcity.net the .NET centric brother of http://www.vbcity.com
Very well done unfortunately it doesn't appear that the site is getting a
lot of traffic yet which is a shame.

Re: Companies Using .NET
Nope. I'm not a big fan of big 6 firms. They should stick to accounting.
I can say this, we deal mainly in insurance.
