How big is the .NET framework
My latest project involves the upgrading of an old legacy VB 3.0 to either
VB 6 or VB.NET.
We already have VB 6 runtime components distributed to users to so I'm hesitant
to force the installation the .NET framework simply for this one application.
There are no plans to upgrade any of the VB6 apps at this time.
Does anyone know how big the .NET framework is and has anyone had problems
installing it on older Win95 machines?
Thanks,
Augie.

Re: How big is the .NET framework
The .NET Framework redistributable is a 20MB download and it will not
install on Windows 95.
To ensure adequate performance, the .NET Framework has the following minimum
and recommended system requirements for client and server applications.
Operating System Requirements
The .NET Framework is supported on the following platforms.
Scenario Operating System
Client Microsoft® Windows® 98
Microsoft® Windows® 98 Second Edition
Microsoft® Windows® Millennium Edition
Microsoft® Windows NT® 4.0 Workstation with Service Pack 6.0a or later
Microsoft® Windows NT® 4.0 Server with Service Pack 6.0a or later
Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Professional
Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Server
Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Advanced Server
Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition
Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional
Note On all these systems, Microsoft® Internet Explorer 5.01 or
later and Microsoft® Windows® Installer 2.0 or later are also required.
Server Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Professional with Service Pack 2.0
Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Server with Service Pack 2.0
Microsoft® Windows® 2000 Advanced Server with Service Pack 2.0
Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional

The .Net framework won't run on Windows 95, however, I found several people
selling Windows 98SE on Ebay for about $29-$30. You might be able to find
it for less at a swapmeet.
