Yeah, I was trying real hard, but.... Anyway, how was your thanksgiving?
Mine, great. By the way, the pocketpc issue we were talking about is solved.
It is not pretty, it's buggy at the moment but I have an IPAQ that can talk
to a mainframe. Pretty cool. I originally gave up in .NET and went back
to CE and C++. Then the light bulb went off(no comments please). Cost was
cheap(to my wallet) but the company will pay dearly for not allowing me to
use web services on this.
Thanks

Well mine was great, too. Would love to hear how you solved that problem,
since I'm interested in developing apps for the Pocket PC, but I haven't
had a chance to download the .NET Compact Framework yet. My understanding
is that it can be a bit tricky writing a Custom Data Provider for the Pocket
PC.

Not true... your jokes are just not funny.

Interesting that your "jokes" are generally at the expense of others in this
newsgroup. If you want to be honest, you could try rephrasing that as "Can't
take a put down?"

Now just a minute. I have been called moron, a**hole, jerk, loser, pretty
much every name in the book. What, because I state the obvious it's at the
expense of others? You should get off the high horse there.
It was a joke. Are you saying VB isn't slow? Are you saying VB doesn't
look all pretty up front? Please, every statement I made in this thread
was true. Again, get off the high horse.
If you want to be honest, you could try rephrasing that as "Can't
>take a put down?"
Put down to whom? There was not a single word about any one individual.
Matter of fact it was directed at the language itself.

Coincidentally, your services defined on your web site are nothing a high
school kid knowing ASP and VB couldn't do, for much cheaper I might add.
Now that was a putdown and not a joke.

OK, time to analyze.

Come on, that was hilarious. I can't stop laughing. Hold on a second, I
will take this to some of the other guys here and see what they say...............................................................................Yup,
they're rolling in the aisles.

Again the same reaction. Hmmm. Maybe I should take this to the VB side
of the shop and see the reaction. Be right back...................................................................................... ...............................................................Whoa.
I about got my *** kicked. I see now - Non VB programmers - good sense
of humor...VB programmers - no sense of humor. Yup, that's about right.

Compared to assembly code or C/C++ code of similar quality and utility?. VB
is typically _slower_.
Compared to LISP code or Java code of similar quality and utility?. VB is
typically _faster_. [1*]
When you factor in developer productivity however.....VB is streets ahead of
all except LISP (assuming LISP is a viable choice for the problem domain).
VB's IDE is certainly a **** sight more useful (and yes pretty) than LISP
IDEs are.

Re: Real Programmers
I guess since the software engineer career isn't panning out for you, you
should switch to becoming a writer on TVs will and Grace or maybe Becker...
those shows seem to be about your speed.
You're a legend in your own mind.

Its is amazingly close though. One C Guru here at work wanted to prove to me
how slow vb was. For the same simple routine he could only find a 10% gain
in speed.

Have you ever considered that maybe you are all these things?
What you have done is the equivalent of making derogatory racist remarks and
then claiming it was a joke. Only a moron, a**hole, jerk, loser would wonder
why people took offence.

Re: Real Programmers

First things first, it's Senior Software Architect of IOS(that's Integrated
Open Systems). And you are trying to claim that you are a software engineer,
please stop, I've had enough laughs for one day.
>isn't panning out for you,
Actually, it's panning out quite well(to the tune of $108,500/year) thanks.
you

Do you have a problem with these shows? I personally can't stand Will and
Grace(the little gay guy has got to go, but Grace is hot - I love red heads)
but Becker is pretty funny. I've always followed Ted Danson since Cheers.

Aren't we all?

Re: Real Programmers
Kunle,
It was a joke. I am sorry that you spent your time responding to that.
It was just a joke.

Man, you just don't get it. Yeah, I will consider it and really, it doesn't
bother me. I just consider the source.

First, I didn't wonder why people took "offense". I am not crying over it
or losing any sleep. Second, I will say it again(for the last time) ------RACIST?
ME? I am an african american male in the good ole USA. Hardly a racist.
Now, I'll tell you like I've told many others, Shut the f*** up.

Holy jesus h-christ pyle!!! Post the code!!! Doesn't 10% mean much to VB
programmers. 10% is enormous!!!! Let's see the for loop that you used.
I sure hope it wasn't that trival.
