How To: Create site with name like name.domain.com?

As I proceed with my site design, it has become obvoius to me that I need
to break away from the standards of site names like www.mysite.com, and instead
need to use a name like premium.mysite.com. The problem that I have is that
I can find no documentation on how to set up IIS to allow for this to happen.
Does this have to happen at the NIC level? (I sure hope not.) If not,
could someone point me in the direction of the documentation for setting
    up IIS 5.0 for this?

    Thanks

Your domain name is handled at NIC level but beyond that, all fully qualified
domain variants "http://mysite.mydomain.com" is handled in your DNS. So typically,
in your DNS, you have a server and IP address associated to each other. Something
    like this.

    mydomain.com 123.123.123.123
    www.mydomain.com 123.123.123.124
    ftp.mydomain.com 123.123.123.125
    mysite.mydomain.com 123.123.123.126

Now, as far as IIS is concerned, some or all of these could be pointing at
the same or different servers. But all you have to do is set up virtual servers
and point each IP at a particular site instance.

    David,

This is cake in IIS. Just right click on the properties of your web site
and go to the "Web Site" tab. Click the "Advanced" button. Under multiple
identities just change the host header name to be your name.

    premium.mydomain.com

Exit out and now that web will answer to premium.mydomain.com provided your
*.mydomain.com dns points to that server. I don't know if Microsoft has updated
the IIS Resource Kit for 5.0 but it has the answer to most IIS questions.
