IE 5.01 or later ? Deployment requirements

I'm putting together pre-installation instructions for end users. I have
read on Microsoft's site that IE 5.01 is required for DOTNET. This might
cause some difficulty for more than a few of my potential users who work
at academic institutions where Netscape is the standard.

Am I correct in assuming that IE would *not* be required for a standalone
WinForms database application? Or are there additional components or
classes that ship with IE that DOTNET apps need at runtime which are not
    part of the Redistributable?

    Thanks

    Hi Tim,

No, I wouldn't make that assumption. My company's standard is IE 5.5 so to
be honest, I'm not sure. The best way to find out is to get a test machine,
reformat it and try it yourself.

You probably already know this but just in case, even if a academic institution
has Netscape as their standard, they should still be able to install IE and
use Netscape. I have IE and Opera installed on my PC and I've never had a
    problem.

    /Pat
