    Converting .dat to ASCII

I need to convert a .dat file to ASCII format in order to read it into an
app. The file looks fine when I open it up using Word, but it is all 'jumbled'
    up in notepad.

is there a way to formatt the file before reading it in ?

    TIA
    Alistair

    Alistair,
If you can open it in Word, then I would use Word to save it as a .txt file.
