    DreamVB

Just dreaming here. I like building dlls and I prefer VB to ATL so here
    goes:

If MS would offer the following in VB:

    -Inline ASM
    -Static linking
    -Exported function DLLs
    -Multi-Threading
(With the most important being the static-linking to enable
    runtime-disconnection)

These things would empower me as a VB control-builder so much that I would
consider going into business writing VB controls. MS could afford to place
great focus on these, because more 3rd-parties would be enabled to write
great controls to fill in the "gaps".

PowerBasic (www.powerbasic.com) can do all that, except for static linking.
Who knows, the next version of PB may even have that, as it's probably #1 on
    the PB users wish list.

PowerBasic with the VB IDE -- now *that* would truly be DreamBasic! :-)

Mark: PowerBASIC doesn't do static linking? I thought it did. Do its EXEs
    require a runtime?

No, no runtime required. But I don't think it'll draw parts of OBJ/LIB files into a
compile, which is what a lot of folks want.

Yes, you are correct. PowerBASIC doesn't let you work with OBJ/LIB, at
least not right now. Also, somebody has created a fairly nice GUI tool for
PowerBASIC's DDT - check it out at http://ezgui.com/. Finally, JazzAGE has
made some code-gen tools for COM-based development in PowerBASIC -
    http://www.jazzagesoft.com.
