Source For Photos
Hi. I'm drowning in results from www searching...
What's a good source for photos to use on a web page? I'm willing to
pay for them. I'll probably join www.ArtToday.com, but I need
additional photos of people and places.
Thanks in advance.

Ah, "Stock Photos" is the magic keyword search phrase.
Still, if anyone has a favorite source or two please reply. Lots of
these sites want to sell me a CD.

Try Photodisc.com - they are AWESOME and you don't have to buy a thing

Hello Sheila and Mark,
True, photodisc is awesome but they are not free. If you register you take
the comp with you (without the watermark). Comps are used to show your clients
or whomever the art which would/could be used. Then you go back to Photodisk
and buy the rights to the original. They are not in public domain. Also,
read the restrictions and the copyright notices.
Other sources are:
artville.com
eyewire.com
corel - clipart city (also has photos). This one is a yearly membership.
As for Atville, I own a few of their cds. You get what you pay for.

Re: Source For Photos
Thanks, everyone!
On a related note, does anyone have recommendations for image software
that can easily achieve either of these:
- "Feather" the Left/Right/Top/Bottom 10 pixels of this image to a
specified background color (usually white).
- Put this specific frame around this image. (For example, assume
the frame is 5 pixels wide, a row each of black, red, white, blue, &
black again, and the source image is 50 x 100. The famed image would
be 60 x 110, with a very ugly border.)
I have Paint Shop Pro 5.0, and I think it can do these things. But can
it be automated...???
What I'd like to do is quickly make a whole bunch of possible images
for a web page to let others choose *exactly* what _they_ want.
(Anyone hear me? <g>)

I dunno. Check the doc's.
I use Macromedia Fireworks and Adobe Photoshop, and they can both be
automated. I've not used either this way, so I'm afraid I can't give you any
specific advice. As I understand it, the automation is to apply a set of
pre-captured commands automatically to one or a batch of images. Is that
what you want to do?

Actually, I'm just trying to achieve some good results without having to
learn <g>another !@#$$%$!! programming environment</g> ;-)
I think I can learn anything; it's just a matter of when I'll get time...
Thanks.

Yes, but what do you mean by "good results"?
It wasn't clear to me what you want to achieve. Do you want to automate the
creation of a variety of edge effects to create multiple images from one
image? This is not doable, afaik. Or do you want to automate the application
(i.e., recreation) of a pre-determined edge effect to a batch of images?

I would like to be able to quickly and easily frame or feather an
image. The full-featured imaging programs I have are designed for
interactive use.
A little web searching turned up FrameMaster. I'll give it a try.
