Access denied to preserve.web
I created a website on a Win2K server machine running the NGWS Framework.
The site has front page extensions installed on it and I developed on it
using Visual Interdev. My asp+ pages worked just fine. However the next
morning I tried to access the pages and I can't seem to authenticate, even
as the system administrator. After 3 attempts, I get an ASP+ error with the
following message.
I've looked all over the place and cannot find any information on why this
is happening. I've checked permissions on the preserve.web file etc... But
so far, no luck. Any ideas?
The error I get is listed below.
Exception Details: System.AccessException: Access to path
'd:\websites\intranet\webroot\codegen\preserve.web' is denied.
Stack Trace:

Re: Access denied to preserve.web
As a followup to my last message. I solved the Access Denied problem by removing preserve.web. However I still don't know what that file is used for so it seems like a hack that luckily worked.
Any ideas?

Re: Access denied to preserve.web
I found that if I gave everyone full rights to the codegen directory the problem went away. It appears to be related to source control making the file read only in the codegen dir...

6. What is the preserve.web file created for in codegen directory ?
[ScottGu]
This is used to enable us to perserve the compilations of pages/services
accross
worker process and application domain restarts. With post-PDC bits, we
no longer need to compile things on a new application startup -- unless
we've never
compiled them before, or unless they've changed on disk.
