    Team development issues

In a team development environment, what is the best method for implementing
source code control, and implementation of test versions of the web site?

I have not been able to find much documentaion on how to use MS Source Safe
    with ASP.NET.

Any pointers to information would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Ross

    Re: Team development issues

I have generally found that the best technique is to let the developers work
with MS-Source Safe in a manner that they are familiar with (as flexible as
possible). I have been in situations where the development leads forced the
developers to use specific techniques. In one situation, we were forced to
setup dozens of environment variables in order to point to the correct code
locations. In another situation, it was suggested that you should only work
from the root of the specific drive. The technique doesn't really matter.
The point is that the some developers were unfamiliar with the technique and
lost countless hours learning how to work around the technique (not with
    it).

Also, when you establish rigid policy, it quite often changes. This is
because rigid policy leads to revolt and unevitable change. When the policy
changes, new hours will be lost. So, the more rigid the policy the more
hours get lost. And the loss is somewhat exponential.

My suggestion is to allow the developers to work freely with MS-Source Safe
and not set rigid policy around its use. Obviously, you have to set some
policy, like making certain that your code works and don't overwrite changes
made by others, but that's a given. Some other givens are
-deny Destroy rights to all users
-create a Play area where developers can check-in test harnesses, test
cases, documents and code unrelated to immediate development
