IDE Question
Hello,
I was just wondering if anyone here has any experiance developing web
applications in Dreamweaver MX. I would like to know thoughts on using DWMX
as an ASP.Net IDE and how it compares to WebMatrix and Visual Studios.net.
For the past year i have been using Dreamweaver Ultradev to develop my ASP
web apps and i feel very confortable with it. I have a feeling that VS.Net
will be a great enviorment to code, but a bad enviorment to design. I am
planning on moving onto DreamweaverMX, but since i will be heavily
developing dynamic database driven content, i would like to know if anyone
has experience with this product and could give me the contrast to other IDE
options.
Much thanks!
Vinny

Re: IDE Question
I've played with DWMX ASP.NET development and I have found it a little
flaky. Whether that has something to do with my setup, ASP.NET being a V1.0
product or Macromedia first attempt at .NET I don't know.

Re: IDE Question
Hi Vinny,
I haven't used DreamWeaver MX, but I do occasionally use DreamWeaver 3.0. My
understanding is that DWMX's support for ASP.NET does not produce code behind.
In my opinion, that makes it unacceptable for code. I'd be interested in knowing
if it has any special support that makes it easier to develop an ASP.NET UI
design prior to coding.
In our book "Programming the Web with Visual Basic .NET," we emphasize using
Visual Studio .NET with code behind as an effect way to produce high quality
code. In the sample chapter, which you can read on on our Web site, we discuss
an approach to factoring a Web UI design that is done outside of Visual Studio,
to a Web application in Visual Studio. If you are interested, you can read the
sample chapter here:
