    Send Automatic Email in ASP.NET

    I would like my ASP.NET application to send email automatically. What are
    the requirements to do that? Do I need SMTP installed on the Server where
    my application website is installed? Also, if anyone can give me links to
    any website that has more information on how email works with ASP.NET

    Thanks

    I plan to use the following in the global.asax's Application_Error procedure
    to notify me of any application errors that are not business rule or database
    related.

    Dim message As New System.Web.Mail.MailMessage()
    With message
    .To = "devang777@hotmail.com"
    .From = "mmayfield_NOSPAM@houston.rr.com"
    .Subject = "Error # " & ex.Message
    .Body = "DateTime: " & System.DateTime.Now.ToString & ControlChars.NewLine
    _
    & "InnerException: " & ex.InnerException.Message & ControlChars.NewLine
    _
    & "StackTrace: " & ex.StackTrace & ControlChars.NewLine _
    & "Source: " & Context.Current.Request.Url.ToString
    System.Web.Mail.SmtpMail.Send(message)
    End With
