    Start/launch exe

    Hi, this works locally but when I publish it to a server, nothing happens.

    Code:
        Protected Sub LinkButton1_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles LinkButton1.Click
            Dim LinkButton1Process As Process = Process.Start("\\srv-001\Software\Firefox3.exe")
            LinkButton1Process.Start()
            LinkButton1.Text = "ok"
            LinkButton1.CssClass = "launched"
            LinkButton1.Enabled = False
        End Sub
    Like I say, this works locally. When I put it to a server, the authentication I have works fine and lets me on the page.

    When I click the button, the green loading bar at the bottom of IE7 crawls along but nothing happens.

    The IIS used is on srv-002 so different to where the exe files are kept. The 'Software' folder is shared.

    I suspect this is a security issue as it works fine locally.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Tom

    You may use a Sever.MapPath on your code

    Lets say if you place the exe file under /myfiles/test.exe

    Then on your code it must be:
    Dim LinkButton1Process As Process = Process.Start(Server.MapPath(~/myfiles/text.exe))

    In some occassion, you may be right, that server can blocks this extension to run, so you might need to check with your webhosting support

    Hope this help
