    Playing sounds in a java application

    I have been looking around the internet a long time trying to get some information about this topic. I was able to get sounds working in a java applet, but for some strange reason, I can't get them to work with an application. If someone could please give me some detailed instruction or better yet, an example, I would greatly appreciate it.

    TIA

    Code:
    import  sun.audio.*;
    import  java.io.*;

    ...

    private void playSound(String file)
    {
    	try {
     		AudioPlayer p = AudioPlayer.player;
       		AudioStream as = new AudioStream(new FileInputStream(file));
       		p.start(as);
    	} catch(Exception e) {
    		System.out.println("Audio Error: "+e);
    	}
    }
