Paul: A search on "java book recommend" at http://news.devx.com returned the
following:

http://news.devx.com/cgi-bin/dnewsweb.exe?
utag=&group=java.general&xrelated=2183&cmd_related.x=1

The preceding URL must be pasted into your browser as a single line.

Paul:

No problem. Several good ones have come across my desk, including

"Java Programming: From the Beginning," by K.N. King;
http://www.devx.com/free/books/bookv...ontent_id=1716

"Thinking in Java," by Bruce Eckel;
http://www.devx.com/free/books/bookv...ontent_id=1210

and
"Essentials of the Java Programming Language," by Monica Pawlan.
http://www.devx.com/free/books/bookv...ontent_id=1670

Check out our book guide for more titles:

Hope this helps. And good luck.
