    Just trying to get started in 2005...

    I'm just trying to get started in VS.NET 2005 by checking out a sample ATLAS project from MS I downloaded. It's named ASPNETAtlasHOLCS.

    I can't even compile this C# project. It doesn't like some generics that exist in this sample project:

    -------------------------

    using System.Collections.Generic;

    static List<SampleRow> _data;

    Error 3 The type or namespace name 'SampleRow' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\ASPNETAtlasHOLCS\DataService.asmx 23 22 C:\...\ASPNETAtlasHOLCS\

    -------------------------

    Now, this SampleRow class DOES EXIST in this project. It's sitting right there in a file named SampleRow.css.

    I've tried explicitly tracing down the class, like so:

    static List<ASPNETAtlasHOLCS.SampleRow> _data;

    but it's like there's no namespaces in this project. I've even tried wrapping this SampleRow class in a namespace so that I could explicitly name it in these variable declarations like the one above, but IntelliSense doesn't show any such beast.

    What's the deal? Is 2005 buggy (probably not), are namespaces no more in 2005 (certainly not), or am I just missing something (certainly so)?

    I'd love any help with this. I don't have any real warm fuzzies from my first real venture into 2005.

    Thanks.

    I'd have to pull the code down to answer better, but I can state:

    Is 2005 buggy (probably not)
    Considering the product doesn't release until next month, it means you are using a pre-released version. It very well could be buggy.

    are namespaces no more in 2005 (certainly not)
    You are correct - namespaces are alive and well in 2005.

    Other than that, we'd need to look at the code to state anything more.

    This page has a VSI file (VS project) that you can load into Visual Studio 2005 as a starting point for Atlas. I wasn't sure where you downloaded the file you mentioned from.

    Use this:

    public class SampleRow
    {
    public int Id = 0;
    public string Name = "";
    public string Description = "";
    public SampleRow(int nID, string strName, string strDescription)
    {
    Id = nID;
    Name = strName;
    Description = strDescription;
    }
    }

    You should of course add a better accessor to Id, Name and Description, but this works for a quick solution.

    Take a look here:

    http://atlas.asp.net/docs/default.htm

    You'll see the full source code for the service in one of the tutorials. Parts are missing from the quick starts.
