new to applets, can I get some advice

Hello, I just joined this forum and am hoping that you people will be able to help me out. I have some experience with Java(most of a HS course), and I am interested in making applets and GUIs. I want to start out making some simple applets, but I am not really sure how to go about it. I can make the really simple "hello world" stuff etc..., but I want to get some practice with the colors and shapes and some of the more advanced features. Does anyone know of any good instructional websites or tutorials?

Hi,

I'm doing Java at the tertiary level and I've found the Deitel & Deitel books
to be quiet useful in learning alot about java.

I know Java: How to Program sixth Edn contains a chapter on applets and
a few chapters on GUIs.

Go to the java.sun.com tutorial site and you'll find extensive tutorials on GUI implementation. There is an applet tutorial available, too.
