How can i change set the date format in sql2000 to dd/mm/yyyy????

i had sql 7.0 and thw date returned as dd/mm/yyyy (there was windows nt on
server too. Now i have windows 2000 and sql 2000 and the date returned as
mm/dd/yyyy and same stored procedures doesn't work properly. so how can i
change sql to work with dd/mm/yyyy with out using function like convert or
other, i think there is something to change (like regional setting on server,
which i tried to change but doesn't work) and then the stored procedures
will retrive the dates as dd/mm/yyyy. Thanks
