Weblogic vs. Websphere
Does anyone have any strong opinions regarding the selection of Weblogic vs.
Websphere? Websphere's lack of J2EE compliance is a big issue for me. I am
also concerned about performance and scalability. Techmetrix's anyalsis does
not include the current Weblogic and Websphere versions (at least that I
can find).

Best of luck deciding. Personally, I would look very closely at your environment
before making this decision, paying particular attention to:
1. Are you running on Solaris, AIX, HP? Since Weblogic is fully J2EE compliant,
if I were running on Solaris, I would lean toward WLS b/c of the native thread
issue.
2. Is cost and ease of deployment an issue? Again, Weblogic, our customers
have told us time in and time out, that WLS is easier to deploy at this stage.
I'm sure IBM and BEA would have their own stories, but I'm vendor neutral.
3. Are you a complete IBM shop?
4. What type of application(s) are you deploying? What sort of connectivity
do you require to legacy applications? What type of applications are those?
5. You realize which JDKs are supported for each app server?
6. Are you looking for a 100% Java solution?
By the way, we are a firm the specializes in performance & scalability testing
Server side Java apps, and have some tools & expertise available (on a short
term basis only) that help performance test both the app server and the database
tier, if you are seeking help in that area.
