Current guess is mid 2001. Most important change, all of them. Take a look
at Robert Scoble's page for links to FAQs, articles etc.

I don't know. Bill Gates told me that VB4 would be released for the
Macintosh and it never was. So, I don't believe Microsoft ship dates anymore
and anyway, they haven't given one recently.

My educated guess? Sometime in 2001.

They have said that beta 1 of the .NET Framework SDK will ship in the next
    few months.

Heheh. That would certainly be a horrible death.

But, I keep repeating that story to underscore the fact that any guessing on
dates (even official guessing by Mr. Gates himself) is premature. The real
truth is that no one alive knows when this thing will ship at this point and
anyone who tells you that they do know should be treated with a great deal
    of skepticism.

I think it's a very positive thing that no one from Microsoft is involved in
    the date guessing game yet.

Re: When will the VB7 be released?

Well, I guess thats the point.... it does not prove a thing, since that was
a strategic change. VBA was and is obviously compileable for the Mac (thats
how Mac Office has it), its just that at some point they chose to change the
strategic direction for developer tools. And the Mac was simply not a
platform that VB was important for anymore.

The only way it could be relevant is if you suspect that Microsoft would
suddenly decide that .NET was not strategic and would thus delay/postpone or
stop the product from shipping. Which as you know is not very likely....

There are real examples of Microsoft skipping products almost into oblivion
and time periods shorter than that for various reasons.... those examples
would be much more on point. :-)

Well, OK. Let's remind them of NT5, Visual Basic 4.0, Visual Basic 1.0,
    among others.

Do you know whether it will still be limited to W2K or it will be usable
    also on NT4?

Thanks in advance for the information.

The first shipping version of VS.NET should run on Win9x, NT4, and Win2000.

Is anyone putting together a FAQ and a daily-posting bot for this kind of
    stuff?

Hahah, and I remember when he said that all new apps would be released
first for OS/2 and then later, maybe, for windows. Meanwhile the win 3.1
group was burning the midnight oil.

Following up to myself, because I probably left a misleading impression ...

Microsoft people have said in various forums that Beta 1 and later should
run on NT4; if you're a beta participant, you won't have to upgrade to
    Win2K.

There are already tons of DOTNET FAQs. Nobody bothers to read them, though.
    They are listed at http://www.devx.com/dotnet/resources/
