web page design.
I just found this site today. What a great area for discussion.
I'm in the process of building my first web site for a client. The problem
I see right off is: The screen resolution when using different browsers and
monitors. Can someone explain what I need to do to fix this problem? I
want it too look the same on everyones PC.
The site is being constructed with layers and tables using Macromedia's Dreamweaver
3.0 for the development.
Thanks for your help!

An important thing to understand about Web design is that you will never be
able to make your Web site look the same on everyone's PC. For one thing,
not everyone will browse your site with a PC. People may be using a Mac,
WebTV, a PDA, etc. Even for PC browsers, remember that some browsers are
text only. Some, for people with vision problems, will magnify your page,
and some will convert it to voice. Here's a link to an article I wrote a
while back on the topic of Web accessibility:

About screen resolution. Remember that it is not just screen resolution that
affects the display of a web browser. Your pesky web site visitor may choose
to size his browser window to size smaller than full screen. Or he may be
displaying a left-hand column of favorites in Internet Explorer. But there
is hope! If you create a liquid design, your pages can look good no matter
how wide the (conventional) browser window is. Here's a good article on the
topic.
